Universities are considered as an institution that provides higher education to individuals making them masters in a particular subject. Universities can be called as the generators of knowledge and technology. The universities of India are ranked every year by the Ministry of Human Resource Development. It has a methodology that ranks all the participating organizations based on the ranking parameter that broadly covers – “teaching, learning and resources”,” research and professional practices”, “graduation outcome”, “ outreach and inclusivity” and “perception”. Many universities go through this process.
This year on 9th April the following institutions were felicitated by the honorable President Shri Ram Nath Kovind as the top five NIRF rankers. The top five universities are IISc Bangalore, acquiring the first place, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in the second rank, Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in the third rank, University of Hyderabad (UoH) in the fourth rank and the University of Calcutta in the fifth rank. Major changes in ranking in comparison to last year were seen by the University of Calcutta which was in rank fourteen in 2018 and has acquired the fifth rank this year. The University of Hyderabad has ranked fourth this year which was in rank five last year. The Institutional rankings in engineering and technology are – IIT Madras in the first rank, IIT Delhi in the second rank, IIT Bombay in the third rank, IIT Kharagpur in rank four and IIT Kanpur rank five. Similarly in the ranking of management institutes – IIM Bangalore ranked first, IIM Ahmedabad in the second rank, IIM Calcutta in the third rank, IIM Lucknow in the fourth rank, IIM Indore in the fifth rank. In the ranking of colleges – Miranda House is in the first rank, Hindu College ranked second, Presidency College, Chennai ranked third, St. Stephen College, Delhi ranked fourth and Lady Shri Ram College for Women, New Delhi in the fifth rank.
These were the organizations in the top five leaving behind all other participating universities and institutes. The ranking aims to bring development in the field of education by enhancing their standard year by year. This helps in raising the level of Education in India with new ideas and discoveries by the students. Hence this is a step taken by the Government of India to judge the Institutes in India and take the education system of India to new heights.
